The SAMMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is dedicated to furthering the field of Orthopaedic Surgery through clinical, basic science, and translational research. This is evident in the 75 peer-reviewed publications produced in the 2020-2021 academic year and the 35 presentations given at regional and national conferences.

Research Requirements
The graduation requirement from the residency program includes one manuscript completed and submitted for publication of an original research project with IRB approval.

Research Year
Typically after the completion of PGY-2 year, there is an optional year for research for one resident per class. The resident is decided on an application basis with a desire to engage in scholarly research and academic lectureship.
