Since 2006, the Extremity War Injuries Symposiums have sought to identify the top orthopaedic research priorities for the wounded warrior and tactical athlete. The purpose of the EWI is to decide the areas of orthopaedic research that should be addressed to support the US Military, with translatable benefit to the civilian population. This strategic meeting is done in partnership with our congressional leadership who allocate these research funds.
Each year this accounts for $20-40 Mil in research funding with increasing attention being given to sports medicine as these are the most common injuries in our young military athletes.
This is the largest source of orthopaedic research funding in the world with increasing attention paid to PTOA, orthobiologics, soft tissue injuries, etc.
We hope you will join us for another outstanding Scientific Program this coming January!
