Traveling Military Fellowship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduated approved orthopaedic residency training in or before 2024
  • Must be qualified to practice orthopaedic surgery in the United States
  • Must be an active duty military orthopaedic surgeon
  • Must be a member of the OTA and/or SOMOS (resident, candidate, or active)

Fellowship applicants must be able to travel up to 3 weeks throughout 2027.  Fellows should be able to utilize No-Cost TAD/TDY pathways for this fellowship.  Arrangements for fellowship locations and dates will be coordinated with each individual fellow and the host sites they will be visiting.  Fellows will have travel and housing arrangements covered by each host institution or a grant, but the fellows may be responsible for additional expenses, i.e. meals, Ubers, etc. We have compiled a database of institutions across the country interested in participating in this fellowship; the fellows will be able to choose which sites they visit from this list of excellent medical centers.

  • A minimum of two sponsors must send letters of recommendation to the selection committee on your behalf.  One sponsor should be from a member of the OTA and the second letter should be from a member of SOMOS.
